Sandhan valley is the best weekend getaway which is near Pune and Mumbai. It is the 3rd deepest valley in Asia, and one of the greatest canyons in Sahyadri mountain range. It is also called as the “Valley of shadow” as it is around 300 ft deep with almost 300 ft rock walls on both the sides. They charged around Rs.1300 from Mumbai to Sandhan valley.
It was Friday night, time was around 11 pm, we started our journey from Andheri station. First, the instructor made us introduce with each and everyone present there. After the introduction round, we started playing some games in the bus. Some of the group members were feeling sleepy, so they slept. After 5 hrs of a journey, we reached Sandhan valley. Then all of us had breakfast there and then we started the trek.
Sandhan valley trek is a beautiful trek with thrilling adventure, and it is a perfect spot for adventure lover travelers. The trek started from the Samard village. In starting, we had to trek from some plain and small jungles and after that, the real trek begins. Normally, a trek is like you have to trek in upward direction and reach out till the peak and start descending but this trek is totally different from the other treks as it is a full descending trek with small and big rocks and with flowing water through them. The trek is simple in starting and isn’t difficult, but when you trek further, you can see the real Sandhan valley. It’s 300 ft deep valley covered with big rocks from both the sides.
There are small and big rocks, so you have to somehow cross them while trekking and have to reach down at the end. So, slowly and steadily, all of us started trekking downwards through those rocks. The difficulty level is medium as there are some big rocks which are difficult to trek. At some places, water was flowing and its level was around 4-5 feet so because of that we all were wet in that water. After completing 1 and a half part of our trek, we reached a point from where we had to do rappelling for moving further. Then, we summed up our event here only and started descending trek to the base village. After reaching the base village, we all had our lunch and started our journey towards Randha waterfall, which is also a very beautiful waterfall near Sandhan valley.
Best season to visit Sandhan valley is in between November to February.
