Backpacking Trek to Chanderkhani Pass – Manali
Enriching, revealing, fulfilling, rejuvenating – the list of adjectives can grow rightly long when it comes to describing road trip experiences. To experience this I and my friends planned a trek to Chanderkhani pass, which is near to Manali i.e., 30kms before Manali- Himachal Pradesh. So finally our trip started from Gurgaon via our personal car at 5 in the evening. We packed everything that would be necessary for a trek, like a tent, food, utensils etc. Our journey was now started.
The first spot where we stopped was at Sukhdev Dhaba Murthal. Murthal is worldwide famous for its various kinds of special paranthas. We had our dinner there at Murthal and after having the dinner we again started our journey. Now it was around 11 pm and mountain area was going to begin. So we thought of staying somewhere at night because it’s difficult to drive on mountains at night. We started searching for a place for staying that would be safe for staying in the night. Finally, we found a gurudwara in Near Sundernagar, we decided to spend the night there and ate something in the gurudwara. We all had our sleeping bags, so we took them out and slept there on the floor. The place was so peaceful that we comfortably slept there.
Traveling in Mountain:-
Now, it was the second day. We woke up in the morning and got ready for the further trip. We had our breakfast in the gurudwara itself and began our journey to Manali. Now the mountains began. The weather was so beautiful and those mountains in such a weather were so satisfying. We enjoyed a lot of traveling in the mountains. At around 2 in the afternoon, we reached Kullu where we took rest for an hour and had our lunch in a gurudwara again. After having rest for a small duration, we again started our trip.
After traveling for another three hours, at around 5 pm we reached a place called Naggar which is 30 km before Manali. Roads there were so bad, so narrow, it was difficult driving the car on such a road on mountains. It was getting dark now and traveling became more difficult on such a road. So we decided to stay in the night. We began searching for a place for spending our night. While searching for a proper place to stay, we found a locality who gave us a place to stay. We set up our tents there and began cooking something for ourselves.
It was very difficult to burn the fire in the forest. Somehow we managed to burn the fire and cooked our food. It was a dense forest there and time was around 7 pm, it was so dark. After completing our cooking jobs, we started planning the activities for the next day. After planning, we went to sleep at 12 a.m. but we couldn’t as the night was too scary, too terrifying. It was all so dark and we were able to hear the voices of different animals. We heard the roar of a bear, sleeping in such a surrounding was so difficult but somehow we gathered our courage and slept.
3rd Day- Trek:-
Now, the sun has risen. It was a pleasant morning and our 3rd day of the trip. We woke up in the morning and felt so amazing as we somehow survived in the night and also we felt very energetic this morning. We made tea and breakfast for ourselves. After having the breakfast, we started heading towards the base village.
Around 9 am, we reached the base village and parked our car in the villager’s house. Our trek was started now. We didn’t know the route properly, but we kept on trekking according to our gestures. It was really fun trekking on those mountains in cold weather. In the meanwhile, while trekking, we came across another group. Those people were from Ahmedabad. Now we all started our trek together. Around 5 pm, we reached the 2nd base village. There we started setting up our tents.
Then, As we all had all the equipment necessary for a trek, we used them and started cooking and had our dinner. After having dinner, we started interacting with those Ahmedabad people and played games. We were so lost in having fun that we didn’t even notice the time, it was 2 a.m. so now we went to sleep as the next morning we had to start our journey.
Next morning, day 4, we woke up early and had our breakfast and started the trek. Snow area was started from now onwards. It was so amazing trekking on the snowy area. The other group which was from Ahmedabad went back from a spot, as the further journey was very difficult. But we all planned to go till the peak which was around 500mts away and it would take 2 more hours to reach out there due to snow. While trekking, our legs got stuck in the snow, it was becoming more and more difficult in wild cold weather as we were going further.
Finally, after a long trek, we reached our destination i.e. on top of the peak. The view was so mesmerizing. We all were spellbound by its beauty. It was heaven. We had rested there for some time and clicked pictures. We didn’t want to leave this pleasant place. But we had to.
“Like all great travelers, I have seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen.”
We started our journey back to the base camp. Going back was so adventurous and fun as we were sliding on the snow. This was an amazing experience. It took us hours to go on top but while coming back it took a very less time. We finally reached our mid base camp at 5 pm. We rested and slept there for the night.
Next morning, we had to start our trek back to the base village where we parked our car. Around 10 am, we reached there and got our car and started riding to Manali. We reached Manali after a few hours of driving. There we explored the local places like Hadimba Temple and Manali mall road. Manali is such a beautiful and peaceful place. At 5 in the evening, we started our journey back to Gurgaon. After the whole night of driving and traveling, we reached Gurgaon next day at 8 in the morning.
After coming back to our places, we rested and slept for the entire day and cherished our fun-loving Manali memories. Sliding on the snow, cooking Maggie at mid of the night, making new friends from Ahmedabad, sitting on the topmost peak and everything else was the best experience.
and the most important thing, the total expenditure of per person is Rs.2500/
